Students of the Faculty of New Sciences and Technologies attained top ranks in the three-minute dissertation race


As reported by the cultural and social office of the University of Tehran, the winners of the three-minute dissertation race for post-grad (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) students of the University of Tehran have been determined.

This race is held every three years by the cultural and social office of the University of Tehran, the cultural department of Jahad Daneshgahi, and the students' scientific association with the aim of improving the communicative skills of students, turning ideas to potential products, reinforcing the relation of universities with industries and the society, and the advancement of science and technology. During the course of this race, contestants are given three minutes to present their ideas, methods of research and results in five fields including human sciences, science, engineering, agriculture and environmental sciences, and veterinary sciences.

In this round of the three-minute dissertation race, 13 contestants were chosen from the 57 dissertations sent to the administration's office, among which two students from the Faculty of New Sciences and Technologies were able to attain top ranks in their respective fields.

Mohammad-Mehdi Rezaei, a student of energy systems engineering, under the supervision of Dr. Younes Nourollahi, was ranked first for his dissertation titled "Modelling for the feasibility study of an interactive, stable energy system in the north-west of Iran" in the engineering field. Also, Alireza Ghanad-Sabzevari, a student of nanobiotechnology, under the supervision of Dr. Hossein Sabahi, was ranked first for his dissertation titled "Montmorillonite, an edible, natural nanoparticle with innate anticancer characteristics" in the science field.

The winners were acclaimed and presented with certificates and cash prizes and a library of the chosen dissertations were developed at the end of the race. The chosen contestants will move up to the national competitions.
